I started Intermittent Fasting the day after Thanksgiving last year, and just over 3 months I’ve lost 30 pounds. My goal is to lose 50, so I’m more than halfway there. I started at 240 pounds and I made it to 210. My goal is 190, and when I get there I’ll see if I want to go any further or if I’m going to switch to maintenance.

In the beginning, I was just doing the Intermittent Fasting, the 8/16 method, I stop eating at 7:00 PM and I start eating at 11:00 AM. It seemed easy at first, and soon I was pushing the 11:00 to 12:00 or beyond. (A few times I even made it past 2:00 PM) Then I started doing other things: I’m very sedentary, but I started riding the exercise bike, running in place, push-ups and sit-ups. I started eating healthier foods, and a few weeks ago, I started calorie counting with a phone app, keeping my non-fasting periods to 1500 calories so I can reach my goal before my birthday in May. I’m doing very well. I look better, and I feel better.

I confess, though, mornings are starting to get harder. I haven’t cheated, but my body screams at me most of the morning. It’s hard to take my mind off of it when my stomach is screaming for food. I’d tried drinking water, drinking tea (plain) and coffee (splash of nonfat milk), occasionally one or two Tums, and today I picked up some Psyllium fiber supplement which might help me in the future.

What do you do to curb the hunger pangs as you get close to the end of a fast?

Congratulation, Charlie! This is definitely some fine results!

I think you need to try some style of INTERMITTENT fasting because the 8/16 method is indeed a style of DAILY fasting. It can work in the beginning, but then you can have some difficulties to adhere to it. Probably, your body just tried of it. So, try to fast for 22-24 hr. two times a week and eat close to 1500-1600 calories on your non-fasting days. Also, perform your exercise on non-fasting days. Hope you will continue to lose weight and feel less hungry. Good luck!
