camilleParticipantI am only in my first week. Is it too soon to try the 24 hour fast? I have already been skipping breakfast a couple of days and made it to lunch, so I feel like I am up for the challenge.
And what is the best day to fast?

AlexaFitParticipantFasting is just a way to manage calories. What matters is the calories in a 24 hour period, extend that out 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days or longer.
The same with what days to do whatever you do. Every day does not have to be the same, you can adjust everything to your own needs.
Your body will give you the best answer on whether or not the calories are enough.

camilleParticipantThank you for a quick response! So, just to be clear, the fasting is not a tool for increased fat loss, merely for managing calorie intake?

AlexaFitParticipantPretty much, yes, that is mainly what it is for. There is however a slight hormone benefit during hours 15-24 or when working out fasted before your first meal of the day. During those times there is a slight increase of HGH in the body, which helps build muscle and burn fat. But it’s a slight edge and fasting too much will result in binging and a vicious cycle. So really the benefit is only a benefit it the tool is used wisely and not putting so much stress on the body that leptin, cortisol, and hunger hormones are taken to extreme. Your body will give you the clue by how you feel, how you recover, how you sleep, energy level, and control with eating/binging.
The slight HGH won’t be noticed if the calorie deficit is missing, or uncontrolled eating habits form with vicious cycles. I like to think of it more like a side benefit if it happens to fit with all the things in this lifestyle. It is very easy to get stuck in a rut thinking things have to be done the same everyday, when in truth you can change it up every day by according to how your body is doing.

RebeccaParticipanthi, just want to add on this topic. considering the idea that it doesn’t matter when and what you eat, when loosing weight as long as your meeting your calorie deficit, I can reversed the time I fast?, I work 7p-7:30am. Meaning, I can do my fast when I go to sleep in the morning coming from work, right?

AlexaFitParticipantSure, you can.
